Balneario Caleta Olivia is a dark-sand beach that stretches along the San Jorge Gulf with rocky cliffs forming its edges. The coastline drops steeply into the cold Atlantic waters.

The area developed from a modest wool trading port around 1901 to an important center after oil was discovered in 1944. This shift from trade to industry shaped the city's identity.

The beach runs between Playa Las Roquitas and Puerto Caleta Paula, on the San Jorge Gulf in Caleta Olivia. Signs along the shore use flags to show the state of the sea, a system bathers read before entering the water. The 4,360-metre shoreline is the setting for these daily observations of conditions.

Access is available through several entry points near the Municipal Sports Complex with designated parking and basic facilities. The rocky terrain requires appropriate footwear and careful footing.

One section of the beach holds protected status as a Municipal Nature Reserve to safeguard marine species and coastal rock formations. This designated zone lets visitors observe coastal ecosystems up close without disturbing them.
