Lac Mari Menuco

Lago Mari Menuco is a large reservoir in Neuquén Province, created by the construction of a dam. The water is clear and calm, with shorelines bordered by gentle hills and green fields, while simple trails run along the water's edge.

The reservoir was created by building a dam designed to control water flow and generate electricity for the region. Since its completion, it has remained an integral part of the local landscape and has served both energy and recreational purposes.

The lake carries a name rooted in the Mapuche language, reflecting the region's indigenous heritage. Visitors observe a local tradition where families gather regularly by the water, creating a simple everyday rhythm that has persisted for generations.

The lake sits roughly 40 kilometers south along Route 51 and is easily accessible via small paths branching from the main road. Several camping areas offer barbecue spots, hot showers, and shade from trees, providing what you need for a day visit or overnight stay.

The lake develops algae on the surface during certain seasons, particularly in shallower shore areas, but the water is clearer for swimming in deeper zones. Visitors quickly learn where the most pleasant spots are and adjust their activities based on natural conditions.
