Chivilcoy Partido, partido of Buenos Aires Province
Chivilcoy Partido is a large flat area in the center-north of Buenos Aires Province, with the city of Chivilcoy at its core. The land is fertile and crossed by streams and ponds that feed into the Salado River, while wide fields and pastures support grain crops and livestock raising across the región.
The city was founded on December 28, 1845 and has over 170 years of history. Originally the area served mainly for cattle and sheep raising, until farmers learned to grow wheat, corn, and soybeans, gradually developing it into an important regional center.
The name Chivilcoy comes from indigenous language and means 'place where water flows'. Daily life centers on farming and community gatherings, where residents exchange news at local markets, celebrate together during festivals, and share folk music and traditional meals that strengthen neighborhood bonds.
Chivilcoy is located about 160 kilometers west of Buenos Aires and is easily reached by Route National 5, which runs through the city from northeast to southwest. A local airfield about 8 kilometers west of town has two dirt runways and serves mainly for flight training and occasional sightseeing trips.
The city's coat of arms features three sections forming a pearl shape, with green and blue symbolizing the plains and water, while the local flag created by students in 2008 displays a geometric sun symbol representing knowledge and technological growth, surrounded by an orange border signifying strength and honesty.
