The district lies about 30 kilometers south of Buenos Aires and is accessible via National Route 210 and Provincial Routes 16 and 58, making daily commuting practical. Guernica has small local shops, schools, and community centers, with flat terrain and open spaces throughout the area suitable for walking and outdoor activities.
Guernica was founded by Mathilde Diaz Velez as a tribute to the Basque city, intended to symbolize freedom and resistance. The railway station was renamed to match the town's name in 1948, honoring this connection and preserving the founder's heritage.
