Palacio Municipal, Government building in Centro district, Montevideo, Uruguay

The Palacio Municipal rises 78 meters high on 18 de Julio Avenue, featuring 26 floors of administrative offices and public spaces.

Construction of the Palacio Municipal began in 1935 under architect Mauricio Cravotto's direction and reached completion in 1941 on the former English Cemetery site.

The building contains the Museum of History of Art in its west wing and the Municipal Centre of Photography, maintaining extensive collections for public viewing.

Eight elevators transport visitors through the building, while an external lift provides direct access to the 22nd-floor observatory for city views.

The City Hall esplanade functions as a public gathering space where large screens broadcast national football matches and other significant events.
