La Pilarica, Historic building in Las Piedras, Uruguay

The eighteenth-century building stands at 59 meters above sea level, featuring a watchtower added in 1924 and traditional colonial architecture.

From this strategic location, observers witnessed the Battle of Las Piedras in 1811, a turning point in Uruguay's independence movement.

The building functions as a cultural center hosting theater rehearsals, folk dance performances, and exhibitions about local heritage.

The museum inside La Pilarica displays artifacts and documents related to the Battle of Las Piedras and the Oriental People's Exodus.

The structure received its name from Pilar Cabrera, a merchant who purchased it in 1924 and added the distinctive tower in honor of Virgin del Pilar.
