Tercero River, Principal river system in Córdoba Province, Argentina
The Tercero River is a river in Córdoba Province that flows approximately 307 kilometers from the Sierras de Córdoba mountains until it joins the Río Saladillo. Multiple large dams along its course regulate the water flow and harness it for hydroelectric power generation.
The river received its name in the 18th century as the third waterway counted from Córdoba city. Indigenous peoples had previously called it by a different name reflecting their own relationship with the landscape.
The river serves as a connection point between several towns and remains an important landmark in the daily life of residents throughout the region.
Access points to the water and riverside areas are spread along the river and are used by local communities. It is helpful to become familiar with local conditions and consider the season, as water levels vary throughout the year.
The river receives between 600 and 1,000 millimeters of annual rainfall, which sustains both agriculture and natural ecosystems across the region. This water supply makes it particularly important for both economic activity and environmental conservation.
