Venado Tuerto, Provincial agricultural center in General López Department, Argentina.
Venado Tuerto is a settlement in General López Department in southwestern Santa Fe Province. The municipality covers flat plains in an important farming region of Argentina.
Eduardo Casey founded the settlement on April 26, 1884 during railway expansion across Argentina. His father came from Ireland and settled in Buenos Aires Province before the family moved to this region.
The Regional Museum preserves the birthplace of composer Cayetano Alberto Silva, where he wrote the famous San Lorenzo march. Visitors today see the original rooms and documents from his life as a musician and teacher in this farming town.
The town sits between three major urban centers and is easily reached by road. Those arriving from Rosario, Buenos Aires, or Córdoba find regular bus connections and clear signs along main routes.
The place name literally means One-Eyed Deer and survived several attempts to rename the town after its founder. Local initiatives wanted to change it to Ciudad Casey, but residents preserved the original designation to this day.
