El Rey National Park, National park in Salta Province, Argentina.

The protected area spans 44,162 hectares of dense forests where different ecological zones meet, including Yungas cloud forests and Chaco mountain woodlands.

The land belonged to Colonel Juan Adrian Cornejo in 1767, who received it from Spanish authorities after leading the expulsion of Jesuit missionaries.

The region preserves structures from traditional cattle ranching activities that shaped the agricultural development of northwestern Argentina during colonial times.

The national park entrance sits 203 kilometers from Salta city, requiring advance planning for transportation and accommodations due to its remote location.

The park contains the only known specimens of Aphelandra lilacina, a plant species that exists exclusively within its boundaries.
