The Palacio de Justicia is a modern courthouse with 24 floors of glass and concrete rising prominently in downtown Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The structure features vertical lines and transparent facades that set it apart visually from surrounding buildings in the city center.
The building was constructed in 1996 during a period when Bolivia's legal system underwent modernization. It marked a shift toward contemporary judicial facilities equipped with modern architectural design.
The Palacio de Justicia houses the Tribunal Departamental de Justicia of the Santa Cruz Department, the court serving the department's judicial district. Its 24 floors and 100-metre height make it the seventh-tallest building in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a landmark of the city's first ring road.
The building sits at the corner of First Ring Road and Monseñor Rivero Avenue, making it easy to locate. The site is typically accessible during business hours and readily identifiable from the street.
On 15 December 2007 the tower was hit by a bomb attack that caused considerable material damage but no loss of life. The building was put up in 1996 by Constructora Apolo, and at 100 metres it is Bolivia's second-tallest skyscraper after the Banco Central de Bolivia building in La Paz.
