Parque Urbano Central, Urban park in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia
Parque Urbano Central is a 20-hectare green space filled with thousands of trees of different species and a network of walking paths throughout the grounds. The park includes multiple sports facilities such as basketball courts, soccer fields, outdoor exercise areas, and a running track for visitors.
The land that now forms this park once belonged to the National Railway Company, which operated a passenger station connecting the city to neighboring countries. This railroad past was replaced when the area was transformed into a public green space.
The amphitheater serves as a gathering place where locals come together for celebrations and performances, with traditional drink vendors near the entrances selling refreshments like somó and chicha. You can sense how the community gathers here to share moments beyond their daily routines.
The park is most comfortable to visit early in the morning or late afternoon when temperatures are milder and more people are active. Multiple entrances provide good access, allowing visitors to choose their starting point based on where they want to explore.
Two striking brick towers designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta form the Cumbre de las Américas monument on the western side of the park. These structures were completed in the 1990s and stand as a distinctive landmark that many visitors overlook while exploring the grounds.
