Imbituba

Imbituba is a coastal municipality along southern Brazil's shoreline in Santa Catarina state. The town spreads across mountainous terrain with beaches and sand dunes located not far from Florianópolis.

The town was established in 1923 but grew from a whaling station founded in 1796, which marked the southernmost point of Brazilian whaling operations. This maritime past shaped the identity of the place for many decades.
