Botanical Garden of Curitiba, Botanical garden in Curitiba, Brazil
The Botanical Garden of Curitiba is a green space with formal plantings, water basins, and a metal-and-glass greenhouse featuring three prominent glass domes. The site includes several sections, among them a French-inspired garden with symmetrical paths and a museum located on the grounds.
The garden opened in the early 1990s and followed the model of French royal estates in its layout. The greenhouse recalls the metal architecture of mid-19th-century European exhibition halls.
The garden includes paths named after local figures that wind through beds of labeled plant species. On weekends, families and joggers from the city come to walk among the planted beds and around the lake.
The entrance is near several bus stops that connect from the city center. Walking through the main areas takes about an hour at a moderate pace.
Within the grounds is a herbarium with a collection of roughly 18,000 dried plant specimens from the Atlantic coastal region. This collection is used for scientific comparison studies and to document species that have become uncommon in the wild.
