Couto Cave, Limestone cave in Alto Ribeira State Park, Brazil
The cave extends for 400 meters through limestone formations and includes a waterfall that flows directly into the Betari River system.
The establishment of Alto Ribeira State Park in 1958 marked the beginning of organized protection for over 350 caves in this geological area.
Local guides from traditional communities share their knowledge of cave systems while leading specialized tours through the underground passages.
Access to the cave requires advance authorization and visitors must be accompanied by certified guides who ensure safety protocols are followed.
The cave ceiling features sections with low-hanging mineral formations that create light-reflecting water droplets throughout the passages.
