Caverna da Tapagem

Caverna da Tapagem is a cave system in Eldorado containing multiple large chambers adorned with stone columns, mineral drapes, and calcite formations. The network includes underground waterways and different levels that create a complex underground landscape.

Sigismund Ernst Richard Krone first explored and documented the cave in 1886, bringing scientific attention to the site. This discovery prompted geological investigations into the underground river network and rock formations.

Indigenous groups from the region shaped stories and beliefs tied to this place, seeing the cave as a space where water and stone held special meaning. The formations and echoes within the chambers became part of local knowledge passed down through generations.

The cave is accessed through prepared pathways equipped with stairs and handrails to ensure safe passage. Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, as the ground is uneven and can be damp in places.

One rock formation within the Cathedral Hall exhibits a striking red glow when lit from above, creating an unexpected visual effect. Many visitors overlook this phenomenon, missing one of the cave's more memorable details.
