Casa do Trem Bélico

Casa do Trem Bélico is a colonial building in the historical center of Santos that served as a military arsenal. The structure features thick stone walls with a robust design typical of Portuguese military architecture, containing compact rooms built to withstand the demands of weapon and ammunition storage.

Built in 1738 by architect José da Silva Pais, this structure was designed to protect the settlement during Portuguese colonial rule. It remains the only surviving military magazine of its kind in Brazil, representing how the Portuguese secured their colonial ports.

The name refers to its former function as a weapons storage facility, a role deeply connected to the military protection of the settlement. Visitors can observe how the interior spaces were arranged and understand the practical importance this building held for colonial defense.
