José Bonifácio Palace, Municipal palace in Santos, Brazil
José Bonifácio Palace is a neoclassical municipal building with seven stories that serves as Santos City Hall. Granite statues of Minerva and Mercury flank the main entrance, defining the building's classical appearance.
The building opened in 1939 during the coffee trade era and stands as an important landmark in Santos history. It remains one of the few public buildings in São Paulo State that has retained its original structure.
The main hall displays Louis XVI decorations with nine Bohemian crystal chandeliers and gilded furniture featuring coffee plants and dolphins. Visitors can admire the elaborate plasterwork and refined details that define this formal space.
The building is located at Praça Visconde de Mauá and is accessible to visitors during regular weekday hours. Plan your visit on a working day and use local public transport or directional signs to reach the main entrance easily.
The Princess Isabel Room contains a central chandelier with historical frescoes and paintings adorning the walls. This room represents one of the building's most valuable interiors and is often overlooked by visitors.
