Barueri is a municipality within the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Brazil, covering roughly 66 square kilometers (25 square miles). Around 277,000 residents live in a dense urban area with residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and green spaces.
The Sorocabana Railway line was built in 1870, turning the town into a transport hub linking São Paulo and Santana de Parnaíba. This connection encouraged settlers to arrive and spurred economic growth.
The place takes its name from the Tupi-Guarani language, recalling the period before European settlers arrived. Jesuit missionaries established one of the earliest settlements in the area, shaping its early character.
The town is well connected by highways and rail links, making it a common stop for business travelers. Many international and Brazilian companies have offices here, so hotel capacity is widely available.
The Barueri Arena hosted several basketball games during the Women's World Championship in 2006. The complex also stages concerts and larger sporting events that draw visitors from across the region.
