Itapira

Itapira is a municipality in São Paulo state situated in a hilly region at approximately 643 meters elevation. The town has a population of around 33,000 and is located roughly 150 kilometers west of São Paulo city.

The area began as a small settlement called Macuco before becoming an official municipality. In 1890, it received the name Itapira, which it carries today.
