The first recorded climb to Pico dos Marins occurred in 1911, establishing its status as a mountaineering destination in southeastern Brazil.
For generations, local publications and educational materials incorrectly listed this peak as the highest point in São Paulo state.
The northern face presents a less vertical ascent compared to surrounding peaks, making it more suitable for climbing during the dry season.
The Marins Massif contains three distinct peaks above 2,000 meters, arranged north to south as Marins, Maria, and Mariana.
