Japeri

Japeri is a municipality in Rio de Janeiro's metropolitan area situated at the foot of Serra do Mar mountain range. Rivers including Guandu, Santana, and Rio dos Poços flow through its boundaries while the landscape transitions between forested slopes and developed zones.

Japeri was officially established in 1991 as part of urban expansion across Rio de Janeiro's metropolitan region. The municipality emerged from administrative reorganization that created new municipal boundaries to manage the growing population surrounding the capital.

The municipality maintains strong connections to Rio de Janeiro's traditions through its local celebrations, community gatherings, and social organizations.

A railway station provides connections to downtown Rio de Janeiro through the regional train network. Essential services and shops are concentrated along main streets running through the town center.

The district of Engenheiro Pedreira is home to Brazil's first public golf course, operated under support from the Golf Federation of Rio de Janeiro. This facility remains an uncommon recreational option in the metropolitan sprawl.
