Arpoador Park

Arpoador Park, Protected natural area in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Arpoador Park runs along a rocky shoreline connecting two famous beach districts and features rugged coastal rock formations with native plants. The site includes areas for surfing and fishing, exercise equipment at Posto 8, and lighting for evening use.

The name comes from fishermen who hunted whales in these waters using harpoons in earlier times. Over time the fishing grounds transformed into a public park serving the growing local communities along the coast.

The park sits between two famous beach neighborhoods and draws visitors who come to watch the waves and feel the connection to the area's fishing heritage. Surfers and locals gather here to experience the coastline as a living part of Rio's beach culture.

The park is easy to reach and has open paths along the rocks with clear ocean views. Wear sturdy shoes since the rocks can be slippery, especially when wet or when waves are rough.

A large rock formation juts into the water here and becomes a gathering spot as evening approaches and the sky changes color. People come to this spot specifically to watch the sun disappear behind the nearby beach areas.
