Ilhas Tijucas, Island group near Barra da Tijuca, Brazil.
The Tijucas Islands consist of three formations: Alfavaca, Pontuda, and Meio, featuring rocky outcrops covered with bushes and grass vegetation along the coast.
In April 1949, the merchant vessel Magdalena struck a reef near the islands, leading to an evacuation without casualties before the ship broke apart.
The islands host Brazil's only recorded colony of cormorants, contributing to scientific research on coastal bird populations and marine ecosystems.
Access to the islands requires boat transportation from Joatinga Channel at the end of Barra da Tijuca beach, with guided tours available for visitors.
The waters surrounding Pontuda Island contain yellow gorgonians, moray eels, and scallops, making it a notable location for marine observation.
