Museu Aeroespacial, Aviation museum in Realengo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Museu Aeroespacial is an aviation museum in Realengo, Rio de Janeiro, displaying aircraft, engines, documents, and photographs from Brazil's aviation history. The collection covers examples from many decades of technological development.

The institution was founded in 1976 at Afonsos Air Force Base, based on a proposal by Dr. Salgado Filho from 1943. A presidential decree in 1973 formalized the museum's establishment.

The museum keeps the preserved heart of Santos Dumont, displayed in a room on the second floor. Its library holds about five thousand works, alongside an archive of documents, photographs, negatives and films. The name honours the Campo dos Afonsos, called the cradle of Brazilian aviation.

The museum is located on an active Air Force base and may require special permission or advance notice for visits. Plan enough time to explore both the indoor exhibitions and the aircraft displayed outdoors.
