The Centro Cultural Light occupies the former headquarters of the Light company at Avenida Marechal Floriano 168, a 12,168.68-square-metre building erected in three sections over 18 months and inaugurated on 13 April 1912. Its exposed metal structure, imported from the United States along with the main building elements, spans wide bays and leaves large open floors for offices. The side and rear facades are plain exposed solid-brick masonry with large iron window frames. The ground floor holds two galleries, the Lamartine Babo theatre, four panels by Di Cavalcanti, the Light Energy Museum, a bistro and a shop.

The Rio de Janeiro Tramway, Light and Power Company was incorporated in Toronto on 9 June 1904 and authorised to operate in Rio by decree no. 5,539 of 30 May 1905. Its headquarters moved from Avenida Rio Branco 76 to this purpose-built building at Avenida Marechal Floriano 168, inaugurated on 13 April 1912. The ground floor became the Centro Cultural Light in 1994.

The cultural center occupies the ground floor of Light S.A.'s former headquarters, where the company once centralized its main tram lines and public service. Its permanent exhibition traces the company's history, and four panels by Di Cavalcanti are on display. A shop sells items from the NGO Pipa Social, and the Lamartine Babo theater hosts performances.
