Pinheiral, Municipality in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The municipality of Pinheiral extends across 77 square kilometers of terrain at an elevation of 466 meters in Rio de Janeiro state.
The municipality originated from the São José do Pinheiro coffee plantation, where 500 enslaved individuals worked under the ownership of José de Souza Breves.
The Park of the Ruins, containing remnants of the original plantation palace, will house a museum dedicated to jongo dance and music traditions.
Pinheiral connects to neighboring cities Volta Redonda at 11 kilometers and Piraí at 15.8 kilometers through an established road network.
The descendants of former enslaved people actively participate in creating a memory center to preserve their ancestors' history at the plantation ruins.
