São José do Vale do Rio Preto

São José do Vale do Rio Preto extends across 240 square kilometers of land at an elevation of 615 meters in southeastern Brazil.

The municipality gained its administrative status in 1894, marking a significant step in the development of Rio de Janeiro state's agricultural region.

Local residents, known as valeriopretanos, maintain traditional farming practices while cultivating oranges, coffee, cotton, rice, and beans throughout the region.

The municipality contains three protected natural areas: the Pedra das Flores Natural Monument, Maravilha Environmental Protection Area, and Araponga Municipal Nature Park.

The municipality's terrain includes highland landscapes that support diverse agricultural activities while connecting to major transportation networks in southeastern Brazil.
