Curvelo is a municipality located north of Belo Horizonte, about 170 kilometers away in Minas Gerais. The area spans 3,344 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 636 meters above sea level.
The settlement began in 1700 when travelers from Rio de Janeiro and Piratinga rested along Santo Antonio stream while searching for gold in Bahia. The area later grew into an important trading point in the region.
