Our Lady of Hope church

Our Lady of Hope is a church building located on Avenida Castelo Branco that combines brick masonry at the front with wooden construction on its sides and rear. The interior features an altar with a tree trunk displaying roots pointing upward, alongside a communion table and baptismal font crafted from local peroba wood.

The church was built in December 1959 by Usiminas steelworks employees in just 12 days to provide a worship space for Christmas celebrations. It later underwent major restoration between 2015 and 2016, where deteriorated wooden structures were replaced while preserving its original architectural character.

The church became the first parish in the Horto district in 1960 and remains central to how residents practice their Catholic faith. It serves as a gathering place where the community comes together for worship and celebrations that connect people to their neighborhood.

The building is easily accessible via Avenida Castelo Branco and welcomes visitors interested in viewing the interior and handcrafted details. It is best to visit during daylight hours when natural light highlights the wooden elements and the distinctive altar design.
