Parque Municipal do Mindu covers just over 40 hectares in the geographic centre of Manaus, holding primary and secondary forest around the igarapé of the same name. Trails cross the fragment, which forms part of the Corredor Ecológico Urbano do Igarapé do Mindu, and a library holds about 4,000 publications on environmental themes.

The park's origins trace to the 1940s, when the owner of Sítio da Pedreira had a grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes built beside the igarapé. In the early 1960s the Redemptorist priests of Paróquia Nossa Senhora Aparecida acquired the land and used it as a retreat for the Salesian community, planting fruit trees and vegetables. In 1989 residents mobilized against invaders to protect the primary and secondary forest and the habitat of the sauim-de-manaus monkey; with Mayor Arthur Virgílio Neto's support, a municipal decree created the park on 11 November 1993.

The park's name comes from the igarapé that runs through it. On the third Sunday of each month, the "Domingo no Mindu" project brings cultural entertainment and environmental education to the public. The library holds about 4,000 publications on environmental topics, and the sauim-de-manaus, the primate the park was created to protect, is now the city's mascot.
