Serra de Itabaiana National Park

Serra de Itabaiana National Park is a protected area in Sergipe that combines Atlantic Forest and Caatinga vegetation across its landscape. The terrain spreads across multiple municipalities and features natural elements including Poco das Mocas, a natural pool on its eastern side.

The area began as an Ecological Station with limited territory before being converted into a national park. This transformation led to a major expansion of the protected land area.

The park serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors connect with nature through outdoor activities and walking trails. These paths reflect how communities value spending time in the forest and maintain a relationship with the landscape.

The park is accessible by the BR-235 highway with a gravel road leading to main attractions. Plan time for extended hiking since trails vary in difficulty and the terrain changes throughout the area.

A notable scientific discovery occurred here when researchers identified an insect species previously unknown to science. This finding demonstrates how the area contributes to our understanding of regional biodiversity and natural diversity.
