Serra de Itabaiana National Park, National park in Sergipe, Brazil
The Serra de Itabaiana National Park spans 7,998 hectares across five municipalities, featuring diverse ecosystems including Atlantic Forest and Caatinga vegetation.
In 2005, the Brazilian government transformed the former Ecological Station of 288 hectares into a national park, expanding its protected territory significantly.
The park includes numerous hiking trails, such as Via Sacra and Paredao dos Falcoes, which locals frequent for outdoor recreation and nature appreciation.
Visitors can access the park through BR-235 highway and follow a gravel road leading to Poco das Mocas, a natural pool on the eastern side.
Scientists discovered a new dragonfly species, Leptagrion itabaiana, within the park boundaries, highlighting its role in biodiversity preservation.
