Preguiças Lighthouse

Preguiças Lighthouse is a cylindrical structure painted white and red, rising 35 meters above the river landscape. Four horizontal black bands wrap around its body, and the tower stands as a prominent visual landmark in the region.

The tower began operating in 1940 with a third-order Fresnel lens to project its light across the waters. This installation reflected broader efforts to improve maritime safety along Brazil's waterways during the mid-twentieth century.

The lighthouse marks a turning point when river navigation became safer and more organized in this region. Local fishermen and boatmen relied on its light to guide them through challenging waters.

You can reach the lighthouse by taking a boat from Barreirinhas on scheduled days throughout the week. Wear light clothing and bring sun protection, as the tropical sun is strong and exposure during river travel is unavoidable.

From the top, visitors can see both the river and the expansive sand dunes of the nearby national park in a single view. This dual perspective from one vantage point reveals how different landscapes meet at this location.
