Praia do Futuro is a coastal area stretching roughly 8 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean with golden sand and numerous beach restaurants and recreational facilities. The shoreline features regularly spaced structures and amenities that make it easy for visitors to spend extended time here.

The name comes from a 1966 advertisement by the Antônio Diogo real estate agency promoting a "New Neighborhood". The first blocks and lots were laid out in 1968, reaching the mouth of the Cocó River. The first road, later Avenida Dioguinho, opened in 1969, and the second, Avenida Zezé Diogo, in 1970. The agency closed in 2003, ending lot sales.

The barracas lining the sand are roofed with carnauba straw and serve typical dishes, seafood prominent among them. On Thursday nights the beach fills for the traditional caranguejada, a crab feast that has become the week's busiest gathering.
