Cocó Park

Cocó Park is a protected area in Fortaleza spanning roughly 1,155 hectares and features walking trails, mangrove forests, and the Rio Cocó flowing through it. The grounds include diverse habitats and natural features that visitors can explore.

Environmental protection efforts for Rio Cocó began in 1977 and led to the park's official establishment by state decree in 1989. This creation marked an important step in safeguarding the river and its surroundings from urban expansion.

The amphitheater here hosts performances and concerts that draw local audiences throughout the year. Football fields on the grounds serve as gathering spaces where residents organize matches and tournaments.

Visitors can use marked hiking and cycling paths or join guided tours and boat rides on Rio Cocó. The park is best explored early in the morning when temperatures are cooler and wildlife is more active.

The park functions as a natural cooling system for the city, with its tree canopy creating zones noticeably cooler than surrounding streets. On hot days, visitors can feel a marked temperature drop when stepping from the urban area into the park's greenery.
