Museu da Imagem e do Som do Ceará

Museu da Imagem e do Som do Ceará is a media and technology museum in Fortaleza with five floors, including two below ground level. The spaces open onto a central plaza where outdoor activities take place.

It was founded in 1980 to collect and preserve audiovisual works. After major renovations, the current building opened in 2022.

The museum holds recordings, films, and photographs from Ceará's artistic past and shows how local musicians and creators documented their work. Visitors see traditional instruments displayed alongside modern recording equipment, reflecting how artistic practice has changed in the region.

The building is easy to navigate, with clearly separated sections and elevators connecting the underground levels. Plan enough time to move between floors and view the different areas at a comfortable pace.

A room with ten projectors lets visitors step into large visual environments and experience historical moments in fresh ways. The museum also operates specialized laboratories with imported equipment to restore damaged recordings.
