Ponte dos Ingleses

Ponte dos Ingleses, Metal bridge in Praia de Iracema, Fortaleza, Brazil.

Ponte dos Ingleses is a steel structure extending 120 meters into the Atlantic Ocean, featuring two large metal arches and an observation tower at its end. The walkway accommodates foot traffic with railings on both sides, providing safety while allowing clear views across the water.

A British engineering firm built this steel structure in 1921 as part of a harbor development plan that was never fully completed. The project has shaped the beach's character since then and remains a symbol of the city's early industrial growth.

The bridge serves as a gathering point where locals and visitors watch the ocean and enjoy the coastal breeze together. It reflects the connection between the city and the sea that shapes daily life here.

Access to the bridge is free and available around the clock every day, with the best viewing times between 5 PM and 6:30 PM in the evening. Wear comfortable shoes since the walkway is entirely metal and can become slippery when wet.

The original steel structure from the 1920s still uses British components that were imported at that time. This feature makes it a rare example of early international engineering that has survived in this region.
