Bridal Veil Falls, 70-meter waterfall near Sabie, South Africa
Bridal Veil Falls is a 70-meter waterfall near Sabie that drops down a steep rock face, creating a white cascade shaped like a flowing wedding veil. The falls sit within the Mpumalanga region on an elevated plateau, surrounded by dense indigenous forest.
The waterfall is part of the Panorama Route, a well-known path linking multiple falls in a region that experienced significant gold mining activity during the 19th century. The historical importance of the highland plateau helped preserve the area as a destination for visitors.
The walking path through the forest allows visitors to experience how local communities connect with the natural landscape and use these trails as part of their daily connection to the region.
To reach the base of the falls, visitors need to walk 750 meters through the forest from the SAFCOL parking area. The path is well marked but can be muddy and uneven in places, so sturdy footwear is helpful for the walk.
The constant spray from the falling water creates a small pocket of humid air that supports specialized plant species found nowhere else in the area. These rare plants depend entirely on the mist and moisture generated by the waterfall itself.
