Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, International airport in Chongwe District, Zambia
Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is a modern facility in Lusaka with two separate terminals serving different types of flights. Terminal One handles domestic routes, while Terminal Two processes international connections and handles the majority of passenger traffic.
The airport opened in 1967 as Lusaka International Airport to serve Zambia's growing aviation needs. It was renamed in 2011 to honor Kenneth Kaunda, the country's first president.
Terminal architecture incorporates regional design elements while meeting modern international aviation standards through its 2021 expansion project.
Taxis are readily available to transport travelers to central Lusaka in roughly 20 minutes. Car rental companies and bus services also connect the airport to different parts of the city for various transportation needs.
A major modernization project added a dedicated terminal for high-level visitors and upgraded air traffic control capabilities. These improvements significantly expanded the airport's capacity to handle larger international flights.
