Lusaka National Museum, National museum in Lusaka, Zambia
The Lusaka National Museum is a two-story square building with archaeological displays on the ground floor and contemporary art pieces on the upper level. The collection spans objects from different historical periods in Zambia alongside modern artistic works.
The museum began development in the 1980s through cooperation between Zambia and China, opening to the public in 1996. Since then, its focus has shifted from telling the story of independence to showing a broader view of Zambian culture.
The ground floor displays objects from different periods of Zambian life, showing how communities here lived and worked across generations. These items reflect crafts and ways of living that remain connected to local traditions today.
You can visit during regular opening hours, and there is a cafeteria area for refreshments inside. A shop selling locally made goods is also available if you want to buy souvenirs or handcrafted items.
The upper floor has a special area for children featuring interactive displays that introduce young visitors to Zambian culture in a hands-on way. These activities help kids explore history and heritage through their own experience and curiosity.
