Mweru Wantipa National Park

Mweru Wantipa National Park spans 360 square kilometers of varied ecosystems including wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands at 977 meters elevation.

The national park experienced significant wildlife changes over decades, shifting from large elephant herds to smaller populations due to environmental pressures.

Local communities maintain traditional fishing practices on Lake Mweru, using dugout canoes called mokoros to navigate through dense papyrus reed beds.

Visitors require four-wheel-drive vehicles to access the park, and should arrange accommodations in advance due to limited facilities in this remote location.

The park's wetland system supports numerous water bird species and the elusive Sitatunga antelope, which inhabits the swampy territories.
