Kabwelume Falls, Waterfall in Northern Province, Zambia
Kabwelume Falls is a waterfall on the Kalungwishi River with several parallel water streams dropping about 18 meters down the rock face. The cascading water spreads across multiple segments as it flows down the formations.
The Kalungwishi River carved out this waterfall over many centuries through constant water erosion of the rock layers. The geological formation we see today developed through endless flowing and wearing down of the stone structures.
Local communities view this location as a place where water and nature hold special power. Visitors from the region come here to connect with the spiritual significance of the flowing water.
Reaching the waterfall viewpoint involves a walk of about 600 meters from the starting point, including stream crossings and passages over slippery terrain. Wear sturdy shoes and exercise caution after rain, as the paths become more challenging when wet.
During April and May, when water volume is at its highest, the water creates a semi-circular pattern across the rock face. This season reveals the waterfall at its widest and most powerful display.
