Mbosi meteorite, Protected iron meteorite in Mbozi District, Tanzania

The Mbozi meteorite measures 3 meters in length, 1 meter in height, and contains 90 percent iron with 8 percent nickel composition.

Scientists discovered this meteorite in 1930, though local communities knew about its existence for generations without documenting it in written records.

The Department of Antiquities of Tanzania declared the meteorite as a protected national monument in 1967 to preserve it for future generations.

Visitors can reach the meteorite site by taking a 70-kilometer journey west from Mbeya city, following the road toward Tunduma.

This massive iron formation ranks among the largest meteorites on Earth, with an estimated weight of 25 metric tons.
