Muséum d'histoire naturelle de la Réunion

The museum exhibits an extensive collection of fauna indigenous to Indian Ocean islands, featuring preserved specimens, minerals, and natural artifacts.

Established in 1855 within a neoclassical legislative building from 1834, the museum received the designation of Historical Monument in 1978.

The facility maintains a scientific library containing rare books and engravings from the 18th and 19th centuries documenting regional natural heritage.

Located in Jardin de l'État, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM with free admission on the first Sunday of each month.

The collection includes 560,000 items, with two-thirds originating from western Indian Ocean islands, including specimens of extinct regional species.
