Piton Babet, Coastal summit in Saint-Joseph, Réunion Island, France.
Piton Babet is a peak standing 111 meters above sea level on Réunion Island. It sits on the left bank of Remparts River within Saint-Joseph municipality.
The peak was originally called Piton Saladin before being renamed in the 1950s to honor Raphaël Babet. He served as mayor of Saint-Joseph from 1947 to 1957.
A mausoleum with a bas-relief portrait created by sculptor Georges Guiraud stands at the summit, containing the remains of Raphaël Babet since 1960.
Hiking paths reach the summit, offering views of Saint-Joseph town center and ruins of a former sugar factory. The route is relatively short and manageable for visitors of various fitness levels.
At the southern base lies Caverne des Hirondelles, a natural cave that many visitors overlook when exploring the area. This hidden formation offers a geological contrast to the viewpoint above.
