Piton de Bert, Mountain summit in Saint-Philippe, Réunion.
Piton de Bert is a volcanic summit on Réunion Island that rises 2,274 meters (7,461 feet) above sea level. It sits north of the Enclos Fouqué caldera within sight of Piton de la Fournaise.
The peak was named after Alexis Bert, an artillery officer who documented the volcanic eruption of Piton de la Fournaise in 1791. Jean-Baptiste Bory de Saint-Vincent honored this connection by naming the summit after him.
The summit functions as a scientific observation point for monitoring volcanic activities and environmental changes in the Piton de la Fournaise massif region.
Visitors should bring navigation tools and adequate supplies, as weather can change rapidly at this elevation. Good physical preparation is necessary before attempting the climb.
From the summit, visitors can see directly across to the Foc-Foc plateau and surrounding volcanic formations. This elevated position makes it a natural vantage point for observing the larger volcanic landscape.
