Chissioua Mtsamboro

Chissioua Mtsamboro extends over 2.6 square kilometers in the Indian Ocean, featuring mountainous terrain that reaches 131 meters above sea level.

The island was part of the Shirazi Sultanate territory during the fifteenth century, when Mtsamboro served as the capital and main commercial port.

Local residents maintain traditional fishing practices and conduct regular activities along the main beach settlement in the southwestern part of the island.

Access to the island requires boat transportation from Mayotte, with limited accommodations available for overnight stays on the southwestern beach.

The surrounding reef contains marine depths between 18 to 27 meters, creating specific conditions for diverse underwater species and coral formations.
