Plage de Sohoa

Plage de Sohoa stretches along the western coast of Mayotte with a mixture of light brown sand and clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The coastline features open water views and shallow shore zones that gradually slope into the sea.

The area served for generations as a traditional landing point for local fishing boats that supported maritime activities in Mayotte. This coastline played an important role in the fishing industry and local economy of the region.

Local residents gather on weekends to prepare traditional Mahorais grilled food and watch children play football on the designated area. The beach serves as a social meeting place where families have spent time together for generations.

The beach can be reached by minibuses or municipal transport, with the best visiting period from May to October during the dry season. During these months, the weather is more pleasant and the water is calmer for outdoor activities.

At low tide, the beach reveals small temporary islands that emerge from the water and create natural walking paths across the ocean floor. These fleeting landforms allow visitors to walk across the sea and observe the seafloor ecosystem up close.
