Britam Tower is a skyscraper on Hospital Road in Upper Hill, Nairobi, rising 200 metres with 32 usable floors. Its footprint starts as an equal four-sided square and ends in a two-sided roof topped by a 60-metre mast holding three helical wind turbines. Pale greenish-grey glass panels clad the tapering facade, and the entrance bears the name "BRITAM TOWERS".
Construction began in September 2013 and was completed four years later in September 2017. This project marks a major milestone in East Africa's modern building development during the 2010s.
The name Britam comes from the British-American Investments Company, which owns the tower and uses it as its international headquarters and as the regional base for its East and Central African operations. The 60-metre roof mast holds three helical wind turbines, a feature visible from the street below.
Britam Tower stands on Hospital Road in Upper Hill, with a 12-storey attached car park holding up to 1,000 vehicles for tenants and their visitors. The 32 usable floors are served by lifts from the entrance marked "BRITAM TOWERS". The office space, about 350,000 square feet, is let to tenants rather than open to the public.
The tower was listed among the top 10 in the Emporis Skyscraper Awards, becoming the first African building to receive this honor. This 2018 recognition placed it among the world's finest contemporary high-rises.
