Bukit Daun, Stratovolcano in Sumatra, Indonesia
Bukit Daun is a stratovolcano in western Sumatra characterized by a prominent summit crater containing a large lake. The crater lake spans roughly 600 meters across and sits at the peak of the mountain.
The volcano last erupted in the 18th century, with records suggesting activity around 1770. Since then it has remained dormant without major disturbances.
Local communities have built their livelihoods around the fertile volcanic soil, growing coffee and cocoa crops that thrive in this mineral-rich environment.
The rural roads leading to the volcano require sturdy vehicles and should be checked before traveling. Ask locals for advice and confirm current conditions, as weather and road access can change.
A secondary crater lake called Tologo Kecil sits on the southwestern side of the mountain, often missed by visitors. This second water body makes the volcano unusual compared to other peaks in the region.
