Perth Rectangular Stadium, Rectangular sports stadium in Perth, Australia
Perth Rectangular Stadium is a sports ground in the City of Vincent that combines a heritage-listed main stand from an earlier era with modern additions, seating around 20,500 spectators for sporting fixtures. For concerts, the capacity rises to 25,000 when extra space on the field opens up.
The site began in 1904 as Loton Park and served for decades as an oval sports ground before major rebuilding in 2004. The renovation changed the shape to a rectangle to better suit rugby and football, keeping the old main stand in place.
Perth Glory, the local football club, plays here in front of loyal supporters who gather in the stands on match days. The rugby side Western Force shares the venue and brings a different feel when their fans fill the seats.
Claisbrook station sits about 310 meters south of the ground and links visitors via trains toward Midland, Thornlie and Armadale. For concerts the field opens extra space, so seating arrangements shift depending on the type of event.
A concert by Ed Sheeran in 2015 drew around 32,000 people and set the attendance record so far. That number topped all earlier sporting events held at the venue.
